Weather conditions during the tour:

In the month of March, temperatures in St. Petersburg will typically range from 16 F (-10 C) to a little above freezing during the daytime. Moscow is a tad warmer during this time.

In Irkutsk and Chita, night temperatures can be -4 F (-20 C) to +4 F (-16 C), maybe rising to 16 F (-8 C), 20 F (-6 C) in the day, perhaps even reaching above freezing during the afternoon.

In any case, "wind chill effects" can be significant when wind or breezes are present. Paradoxically, the weather may "feel" warmer in Siberia than it feels in St. Petersburg during the winter since the climate in Siberia is dry, contrasting with the humid air in St. Petersburg due to its location on the Gulf of Finland. The crisp, cold but dry weather that can occur in America's Mid-West during winter (South Dakota, North Dakota) might be similar to winter conditions in Siberia.

To be prepared for cold weather conditions, the following clothing items should be brought: woolen socks, thermal underwear, warm shoes, heavy coat, mittens, and a hat.

Weather conditions in Chita during the eclipse:
Although it will be cold, Chita typically enjoys clear blue skies in March. There is at least a 60% probability of clear weather conditions March 9, according to weather statistics of the past.
