ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPEDITIONS IN SIBERIA
Lend your hands in unearthing treasures from the ancient Scythian
civilization, or simply enjoy the pristine surroundings of an archaeological
work site near the Asian city of Abakan.
Ideal diversion either for a few days or a few weeks for travellers
from the Trans-Siberian rail.
Festive atmosphere maintained in a tent city, where students and others
from all walks of life have returned year after year.
All meals provided for.
Choose either to work or play. Those choosing to participate
in excavation work for at least one week (7 hour days, 5 1/2 days/week)
will be sent a certificate of thanks from the St. Petersburg Institute
of Culture.
Opportunities nearby to visit archaeological sites rarely seen by Western
visitors. See the "Salbik," the Scythian "Stonehedge" of the fifth
century B.C. See aborigine paintings in caves (ancient tribes in the
area are speculated to be the forebearers of the American Indians
who migrated over the land-bridge to North America).
